Our Variety of Mulch
(Products and descriptions are subject to change)
Forest Mix Mulch:
This is the basic mulch. It is well-aged, with some natural brown color. It is a non-dyed mulch made up of softwoods and hardwoods, and sometimes, a little hemlock. It has some bark content, giving it a richer color and longer-lasting color retention than some other products on the market, which are made of only aged, shredded, chipped trees and shrubs.
This product is superior to those products that have no bark in them. Those products without much or any bark in them lose their natural color quickly when exposed to the sun and air. They also take nutrients away from the plants instead of adding to them. Our forest mix adds nutrients back to the soil for healthier plantings.
Enhanced Forest Mix:
Color-dyed brown, mostly shredded and some chipped wood fiber. Looks like forest mix, but has brown dye added, and has very little if any bark in it. Some prefer this because it looks natural and holds its color much longer than forest mix, but it does not decompose and feed the soil as fast as forest mix.
Dark Forest Mix:
(Subject to Availability-Currently discontinued)
Made of the same materials as the forest mix but more aged. It has a richer, deeper, longer-lasting dark brown color and is heavier than the forest mix. This mulch has more organic material in it and adds more nutrients faster to the soil due to its more advanced decomposed state.
Enhanced Hemlock Mix:
This bark mulch has a large percentage of hemlock bark in it. Red dye is added to produce a mulch that is redder than the hemlock mix and looks very natural. It is finely ground and has a nice aroma. It retains its red color for much longer than the hemlock mix. It even has considerable color into the next year.
Brick Red Mulch:
Clean wood is shredded and / or chipped, and colored with a "brick red" dye, which is very safe. This dye is also found in some foods, such as some hotdogs, to give them a redder color.
This product retains a great deal of color even in dry, bright sunlight conditions. It is a little deeper or darker red than the bright red. This same color is used in making bricks. It is generally preferred over the bright red.
Other Options
Bright Red Mulch:
Clean wood is shredded and / or chipped and colored with a "bright red" dye, which is very safe. This dye is also found in some foods, such as some hotdogs, to give them a redder color. This product retains a great deal of color even in dry, bright sunlight conditions.
Playground Fiber:
Clean wood is shredded and / or chipped into a smaller size. This is often used as an impact cushion in areas under play structures. There are no recycled materials in this product. This material is sometimes referred to as a "wood carpet." This product meets the government specifications when properly applied for use in play areas.
